Lake of Menteith 8/5/18

Temperature at 6ft 12C and Secchi disk Water Clarity 3m

Water temperature has jumped a couple of degrees this week. Yesterday in the bright sunshine and waves the bung and buzzer (size 14) on a full floater was working well (20 fish for one straight faced angler). Today the top bag so far with 24 fish is Bill MacFarlane who was fishing with HASSRA. Bill’s technique was a claret bumble and a plastic beaded white cat on an intermediate Cortland blue line and a 15ft ghost tip. For a retrieve Bill said the figure of eight wasn’t quite fast enough. Bill got all of his fish in Hotel Bay.
In the first heat of the Scottish Club Championships Firecats (Jim Keir, Mark Fleming and Ralph fleming) were top bags with Gateside B and Dunfermline Rusty Nail AC Coming in 2nd and 3rd. Wee bit of a shock with Change A AC getting knocked out. The 33 anglers landed 99 trout.
Scottish National Trout Fly Fishing Championship; Sponsored by Ridgeline UK, 7plus7 Construction and R & E Hygiene: The fifth heat of the National was held at the Lake of Menteith on 3rd May and was won by John Simpson of Caley Liners FF with 21 fish for 40lbs 12.8ozs.  Tyley Hay of Lintrathen FF was second with 19 fish for 38lbs 2.4ozs and Alan Gilbert of SPRA FFS West was third with 13 fish for 29lbs 5.9ozs. 57 competitors landed 315 fish.

Boat League Starts tomorrow night 6pm. New Members Welcome.  Below Tosh Storrar from Fife with a good smile and a nice trout.
