The warm water continues to make fishing challenging as it sends the fish down to cooler waters which are richer in oxygen - near the thermocline. Best tactic remains deep tactics, i.e. Di5 to Di7 type lines with a couple of boobies and counting to 30. Alternatively using a sink tip and a team of buzzers on a long leader and fishing them back to below the boat is also very successful on occasion The top area for deep fishing is Gateside Bay but other deeps will also be holding fish. The good thing about this dry weather is the clarity of the water (no mixing of the water column and no nutrients washed in from the land) which is perhaps the reason why some very fine bags (one angler had 17 on dries last Friday) are being taken on mayfly imitations. The best area for dry fly appears to be in the Gap/Sandy Bay area.

We have boats available for this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and also we have the first of our two early morning shifts this Saturday (4am to 9am) – as MID SUMMER APPROACHES and the weather looks set to return to normal.

Well done to FNF Falcons (pictured below) who finished top in the ANGLIAN WATER Day finals (Change and Leven Fly Casters also qualified) and to Tartan Tyers and Neilston who qualified from the evening event.

In the SCOTTISH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS, Grizzlecats B were the top club with 18 fish with Kilmarnock and Buckshead finishing 2 and 3rd.

In the Fario Fly Boat League Gil Farid was top rod fishing deep in the cages. Brian MacKenzie leads the league.
