Lake of Menteith 29/5/18

Temperature at 6ft 18.5C and Secchi disk Water Clarity 3.3

Clarity is still good but the warm water temperatures, wind and bright sunshine will make it trickier. The two hot spots of note in the east wind are the Rookery into Gateside Bay and the Burn Mouth and the Kates Brae area. Tactics have been the washing line (larger buzzers are in vogue these days) or dry fly. Malling Shore has also been fishing of late.

This picture (left) by Colin Riach says it all.

Black Loch Manager David Ezzi caught this fine looking Bow (Fish of the Month Contender) when he was a guest of the Scottish Police at their recent National. It took a buzzer in open water drifting towards Malling.

ROAD CLOSURE BETWEEN THE SMIDDY AT BLAIRDRUMMOND AND THORNHILL (A873) FROM MONDAY 21ST MAY FOR 2 WEEKS. Alternative routes via Arnprior or continue on A84 to the petrol station and turn left on B826 to Thornhill.

In the Competition Scene
On Wed 23rd Brian Mackenzie was top bag (13fish/Kates Brae) with CDCs yellow owl and buzzers in the FARIO FLY BOAT LEAGUE also sponsored by Southside Decorators. Alec Galloway was 2nd with 11 fish using the Ramage Cat. The 31 anglers caught 163 trout.

On the 25th in the final Menteith heat of the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, Fraser Robertson caught 17 fish using a candy booby and 3 buzzers (tens) on a full floater in the Rookery and the Burnmouth. Ben Robertson was second with 14 fish using similar tactics at Kates Brae.

In the SCOTTISH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS  Alba Orvis A  (G.Fleming, S.Welsh and C.Crosbie) were top team with 22 fish (top bag was Gregor Flemming ripping suspenders through the surface). 2nd place were Scottish Police Recreation Assoc (East) with 19 trout and the third place in the semis went to the Priory with 15 trout. Through to the CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS are G.Fleming 10 fish, Jim Walker 9, Kenny Sichi 9, C.Crosbie 7 and Laurie Taylor 6. 30 anglers caught 109 trout.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Bunty Webster and our thoughts are with Vic and Family.
