Lake of Menteith 31st July 2018
6ft Water Temperature – 18C Clarity (Secchi disc)3.m.

Water temperature has finally dropped to 18C at 6ft. Fish are happier at this temperature and anglers are now reporting best bags on lures with sink tips, intermediates or fast glass. The heat wave started at the end of May with water temperatures at 6ft of 18.5C. An amazingly long spell with the water temperature exceeding 18C at depth, has come to an end and there are only just over two weeks left of evening fishing…!!!!!

The cooler water temperatures mean catches are more spread out and nearer the surface and visiting anglers equipped with surface gear are able to catch again. Top spot is still Gateside Bay and other good spots reported from out in the middle of the Eastern Basin, the Gap, Malling Shore and the Rookery.

The last heat of the Scottish Club Championship was cancelled due weather warnings of torrential rain and gusts up to 43mph at 9pm – which never materialised although it did get a bit gusty and damp around 10pm. I think Menteith was just a little too far east. The Heat has now been re-arranged for Saturday 11th Aug.

In the FARIO FLY Boat League 20 anglers landed 90 trout. Top rod was Donnie MacBeth  with 11 fish on a Di7 and mini lures in Gateside Bay. 2nd was Les Grant with similar tactics – he wins the SOUTHSIDE DECORATOR bottle. With only 3 nights left Craig Inglis moves into a 4 point lead, with Brian MacKenzie in second and Donnie MacBeth 3rd.
