Lake of Menteith 27th March
6ft Water Temperature  9C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 2.0m.

Opening day(s) 2012 will be remembered in many different ways but the backdrop to it all has been the completely beezar weather.
Opening Day Catch
The stats for opening day were 239 fish weighed in for 581lbs (average weight 2.4lbs) plus 448 fish returned. A total of 687 fish were caught in total giving a rod average of around 10 fish. This was marginally better than last years total of 674 fish with an average weight of 2.1lbs. However at these high numbers of released fish it is perhaps wiser just to say that the fishing was excellent. Two well known and regular anglers came off the water saying that it was their best ever day’s fishing on the Lake – a real measure of the day!

Above; Ladies Captain for the forth coming ladies international, Elaine McCracken, was presented with flowers for officially opening the fishery.

Above right; Nikki Ross was off Reedy Point when she boated this bow. Above left; a sunburst and a rainbow. Below; Stewart Marshall from Cambusbarron piped open the fishery and later with an overwintered fish. Afterwards all were invited for a meal at the Forth Inn where for a bite and a refreshment. Longest serving director entertained the assembly with some recollections from the when the fishery opened (as a brown trout fishery) in the 20’s and gave a short history of the company thereafter.
Angler’s should be aware that the catering van is non operational and teas and coffees are available gratis from inside the fishery hut.
