Another Road Closure
Stirling Council have announced they are closing the road (A81) from the Rob Roy to the junction with the A873 (i.e. Callander turn off) from the 7th to 11th May. It will therefore be simpler to approach the Lake from the South (i.e. via the A811 and the shore road – B8034) until they are finished.

The sign now up on the road says that the bit of road to be closed is between the Port and the turn off to Callander (junction A81 and the A873) two miles east of the Port. The web says they will be closing the whole bit between the junction and Rob Roy....

As you might expect to hear in this “editorial”….the Lake is still fishing well!  It is though, and there have been some cracking fish in the 5-6lb mark appearing in the catches. The hotspots in the last week have been Butts Bay, Sandy Bay, Reedy Point and the Rookery. Buzzer fishing on a midge tip or intermediate lines (with the use of buoyant flies to adjust depth), have produced top bags in recent days. Not too sure about exact buzzer type but you can’t go too far wrong with something black. Other flies reportedly doing well are dries, small black booby and the cormorant. The east wind has been a feature of the past few days. If it eases, the exposed shores at the Malling will also be worth a throw, otherwise the calmer eastern shores are likely to be popular.
We are now placing drogues in all the boats – so please ensure you leave the drogue in the boat when you leave!

Some club catches from this week were:
Central Scotland Police 7 boats 17 fish for 62lbs plus 42 returned, Stewarton 8 boats 53 fish for 138lbs plus 20 rtd, Denny and dist 6 boats 6 fish for 15lbs, Stanley aC 7 boats 52 fish for 136lbs, LLAC 7 boats 39 fish 105lbs plus 9 rtd

Boat League Prize Total rises to £965 (£1200 plus if you count the winner's nominated charity donation)
The Boat League, sponsored by James Bayne Fishing Tackle (Callander) kicks off on the 9th May. We have over 30 names already but would like one or two more to apply. As an enticement we are putting up a £20 Lake Hotel voucher which will go into a draw for all new entries received from 30th April. We are also creating a new prize of an Opening Day Boat in 2013 for the best newcomer to the boat league in 2012. If you are interested in joining please get in touch. For more information go to the boat league page on the website.
Davie Stewart of Taste of the Trossachs Restaurant Café in Callander is offering a free breakfast to the winner of each heat. His restaurant is at the west end (south side) of Callander main street. This takes the total of the prizes on offer in the Boat League to £965.
