Lake of Menteith 16th May
6ft Water Temperature  9.5C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 1.95m.

Water temperature has fallen a little recently and is a good 3-4 centigrade colder than this time last year. The buzzer hatches appear to be very localised (Butts Bay) but on occasion stupendous. Consequently (?) the fish have become localised here also. In recent days the Butts, Sandy Bay, Road Shore, Heronry and Reedy Point have all produced good catches.

In the last SANACC heat at the Lake 52 anglers weighed in 127 fish for 319lbs and returned a further 155. Top rod was Ewan Clarke of Strathtyrum AC (above centre) with 19 fish. 2nd was John Benson with 17 (above right) and third was Ian Wallace with 13. Ewan was in Butts Bay and fishing a floater with a cormorant booby and buzzers.
In the first heat of the Boat League Graham Steele was top rod with 13 fish. Graham was over in the butts on size 14 black and olive buzzers and floating line. 25 anglers landed 90 fish. Graham is pictured on left being presented with the winners gift token by sponsor Roger Drapper of Baynes Tackle in Callander.
In the second heat of the  Scottish Club Championships sponsored by Angling Active, 15 teams competed for the 3 available club places and 5 champion of champion places. First placed team were Rothes Oak with 21 fish, 2nd were East Kilbride with 14 fish and third Strathleven with 11 trout. The 45 anglers netted 96 fish and returned 46. Through to the champion of champions is Steve Bett of Rothes Oak with 12 fish, Wullie Winning (EK) with 8 trout, Wullie Simpson (Rothes Oak) with 7 fish, Derek Kilgour of Heriots with 6 fish and Mark Tweedie of Strathleven with 5 fish.

Road Closure: Stirling Council have announced they are closing the road (A81) in Blanefield 14th May to 27th May – diversions are in operation (http://my.stirling.gov.uk/roadworks) .
Please where possible can you use/recycle your own clean plastic bags to keep your fish in – as oor bag bill is getting large. Used cloth bass bags are not allowed at the fishery.

Tam Ward from Ayrshire caught this 6 pounder on a size 14 buzzer at Arnmach Point.
