LOOKS LIKE THE WEATHER WILL CONTINUE TO SCUPPER THINGS ON TUESDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER, SO WOULD RECOMMEND BOOKING ANOTHER DAY AS IT IS VERY UNLIKELY THAT THE FORECAST WILL CHANGE AND THAT WE WILL ALLOW THE BOATS OUT.

Ronnie Glass 2011 Scottish National Trout Fishing Champion.
Ronnie of Kelso AA was top rod on Saturday with 12 fish for 27lbs 9.8oz. Ronnie, who is Fishing Manager for Orvis Tackle Shop Kelso, was figure of eighting a midge tip line with a hares ear suspender on the point (7 fish), a damsel in the middle (4 fish) and a blob on the top dropper (1 fish). All his fish were taken in the Hotel Bay and Shear Point drifts. Ronnie has had a good season on the competition scene and must have felt he had a chance - and this was certainly no flash in the pan. Ronnie, who is a font of knowledge on all things fishy, was naturally delighted to be the 119th winner. Will he take a cast of the trophy?

In second place was Allan Smith (far right) of Stormont Field AC who also landed 12 fish – but unluckily his three fish kept for the scales weighed 2lbs 6.6oz less (returned fish allowance was 2lbs per fish). Allan was fishing off Shear Point with a Cortland Blue line and took 8 fish on the point with a candy cat booby and 4 on the diawl bach. In 3rd place was John Simpson (above on left) of Ardrossan Eglinton. In all the sixty anglers caught 332 fish, 168 were weighed in for 447lbs (av.wt. 2lbs 10.5oz) and 164 were returned. The top eighteen qualified for a place in the Scottish Team. Tom MacTaggart thanked the Glasgow Angling Centre for their help with the competition – as well as the anglers and boatmen, Iain and Eleanour for the result service and Wendy and Wilson for the buffet. Competition organisers SANACC, specifically Tom MacTaggart and Mick Moran, deserve a big thanks for their professional approach and all their hard work Full results at www.sanacc.org.uk.

Other Catches: Robert Baldi was out on the Lake before the national and landed this specimen. Good Companions 5 boats 21 fish 73lbs, Interschools 10 boats 37 fish 152lbs plus 4 rtd. Caley liners 5 boats 58 fish 9lbs (some mistake hear possibly). Plenty of 10 fish limits in the 28to 33lb range........
