Weekly Report 30th March 2010

DEBIT CARD PAYMENT (AND SOME CREDIT CARDS) NOW ACCEPTED AT THE FISHERY

Clarity 2.1m Water Temperature at 6ft 6.3C.
The good start to the fishing at the Lake has continued with mainly limit bags or more being netted by the majority of anglers when the weather was half decent. The pike angling re-scheduled for today (30th)was cancelled due to the bad weather.

Those that predicted a lot of buzzer activity, post ice were correct as we have certainly been aware of more buzzers than usual coming off the loch. I suppose, having been thwarted all winter – the buzzers are making up for lost time. Some of the rises on the loch have been spectacular – presumably surface feeding on emerging buzzers.

In the first week overwintered fish appeared in the catches at the rate of 15 to 40% depending on the area fished – more in places like the Heronry and Dog Isle.
Tactics have been largely sink tip this week with buzzers, cormorants types, and lures (gold head damsel, white cat variants and boobies) featuring.

Catches: On the 23rd Alan Murray from Blanefield kept 6 and returned 34. A Anderson Fife 10 fish for 19lbs 7oz and 20 returned. Derek Robertson and Kenny McGuckin had 10 for 23lbs 4 oz with 15 returned. James Gardiner returned 17. On Friday CIBA AC from Paisley weighed in 48 trout for 88lbs. On Saturday 27th IBM weighed in 43 fish for 81lbs and Dalzell Steel weighed in 34 fish for 60lbs with 5 boats. On Sunday 28th Heron Fly Fishers of Beith weighed in 30 fish for 54lbs with 3 boats and returned a further 38. Rothes Oak (5 boats) weighed in 36 fish and returned 17.

Our depth profiling on the 28th March showed the temperature to be a constant 6.3C down to 15m and 6C at 20m – over the deeps. All depths contained 100% oxygen.
