Weekly Report 2nd November 2010
The official trout season at the Lake is now over and recommences on the 26thMarch 2011. There is one more chance to fish for trout in 2010 and that is atour annual charity day on Sunday 7th November when all proceeds go to the local school and Kirk. Fishing is from 12 noon till back of 4 and is followed by a BBQ with refreshments, a raffle and asong from the kids. Ticket for two which includes fishing and BBQ is £40 andthere are 5 boats still to be sold (phone 01877 385664).
Catches over the last week of the season were on occasions excellent – although there were always those that didn’t find the fish and found it tough. Overall it looks like a good head of fish left to overwinter. On the last day Robin smith had 7 fish in the Butts on dries whilst John Buchanan of Gargunnock had 10 at the far side of Gateside fishing a Cortland Blue line and single booby on 8ft of nylon. John’s 5 returned fish included these 2 crackers above. John gave me one of his cat boobys at the end of the day for the report. It looked like a size 10 hook but with a wide gape. Other points of interest were the micro-barb and the red head on the booby which makes a distinctive contrast between the booby’s eyes.John returned both of these fish before he reached his 5 fish limit – much appreciated. Some other nice fish caught and photographed were; above left Alec Russell from Curry and another by Jim Law of Motherwell.
Pike Fishing update:
On the recent lure only outing with PAAS and the PAC - 31 boats landed 210 pike under 10lbs and 9 doubles. There were two biggest fish - both 18lbs 4oz.
