Weekly Report 4th May 2010
A873 scheduled to be closed between Blairdrummond and Thornhill from 3rd to 14th May.
Clarity 2.9m Water Temperature at 6ft 10.5C.
A return to colder northerlies yesterday meant bright conditions at the Lake and this coupled with the good clarity seemed to put the fish off in some of the drifts that had been fishing well on diawl bach and nymphs and the best catches were from those fishing in Gateside Bay and going deeper with teams of blobs or lures. Today as I was stocking (669 rainbows, distributed all around the Lake) there were a lot of boats in the Heronry and Lochend and few boats in Gateside Bay, but at the end of the day it appeared that the angler’s best catches were from Lochend, Kates Brae and Gateside – pulling lures. We have started a new pond of fish and they are averaging around 1lb 12oz, so we will be putting in more fish to compensate. We have quite a few big fish of 4 to 6lbs and these are being trickle stocked. Interestingly, anglers are reporting the fish to be fighting fit at the Lake (more than usual) and perhaps this is due to the fish carrying lower amounts of fat after the cold winter?! The next stocking at the Lake will be late Friday afternoon. Somebody went to close (25ft away) to a shallow marker boy on Monday at Stable Point and broke their electric motor. Stay at least 50 metres away to be safe.
Food Van at the Fishery on two nights per week.
Local man and Menteith boat league competitor Davie Stewart has recently gone into business selling food with his brand new van (pictured above) and is going to give the change over period on Boat League and Scottish Clubs nights at the Lake a go, 4.30pm – 6.00pm ish, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from Saturday 8th May. If this goes well - after a sufficient trial period, we might be able to entice Davie to appear at other times. Davie has previously worked in environmental health and as a meat inspector and knows all about good food and the hygiene issues! When not at the Lake the van is usually to found on the A84 at Loch Lubnaig. We hope it works out. Good Luck Pal!
