Net Maker Marion Wallace from Kilburnie in Ayrshire is the new Scottish Ladies National Champion. Marion (pictured in centre receiving the trophy from Bunty Webster on left) was fishing Lochend and the Road Shore with a white cat booby, holographic cormorant and diawl bach on a snowbee buzzer line. Second was Dione Roberts and 3rd Abigail Montgomery. Nikki Ross (above right) caught the heaviest fish (4lbs 2.5oz). The 23 competitiors caught 51 fish for 111lbs (including 3 released fish).

Tactics:  The fishery will be stocked Tuesday and Friday this week. As usual the fish will be distributed around the loch and we will not be stocking the Gateside Bay area. The best catches have been of recent on the eastern shore and at Lochend. There is more colour in the water (think we must have had autumnal destratification with last weeks frosts), and white lures have proven successful.

Rotary Annual Competition 29 anglers 59 fish for 160lbs, Fife Police 4 boats 14 fish 35lbs, Pitlochry AC 3 boats 15 fish 34lbs, Bank of Scotland 48 fish for 110lbs, Barclays 42 fish 92lbs, Dollar AC 5 boats 15 fish 34lbs, CSP 5 boats 25 fish 65lbs 3rtd, Longannet 3 boats 7 fish for 17lbs, Good Companions 8 boats 44 fish 92lbs plus 4 rtd.

August Catch Stats
2505 fish recorded caught for 5228lbs and 777 recorded returned – a 2 man day boat average catch of 4.1 fish killed or released. The fish average weight was 2.1lbs. Last year the catch average for a 2 man boat was 5.9 fish. Stocking rates per boat hire were similar in the last two years. I’m sure there are many factors at play but it would be good to rule out catch recording as a factor. I’ve worded this carefully as the customer is never wrong! I counted 60 boats for the month which were fishing with clubs that submitted no return. The National Finals were also moved forward into August and the catch returns were low due to practising (e.g. 30 boats out on the 27th and only 18 fish were weighed in with 3 recorded released). Many thanks for recording all catches and releases!
