Weekly Report 8th November 2010

KIRK and SCHOOL Day at the Lake.

The Lake Fishery Company donates the permit takings from the first Sunday after the end of the official season to local causes. For many years this has meant that our neighbours the Port Kirk and the Port Primary School have been the recipients – although going back to before my time the village hall also benefited.  The Kirk and School day faded in the nineties but since its revival it has gone from strength to strength and yesterday’s effort was no exception – a great party was had to end the trout season and there were/was some fantastic; weather, stew, curry, soups, kebabs (lamb, pigeon, venison, vegetable), chops, sausages, burgers, cakes, puddings, toffee apples, tablet, songs, tunes, fish catches, refreshments, raffle prizes (thanks to all the local businesses, parents and anglers), wild and melodious kids, Stewart Piping, generous anglers, mistress of ceremonies, auction antics, helpful and generous parents, barmy boatmen, masterminds and gifts.

The amount raised at yesterdays Funday was £2300 which will be greatly appreciated by the School’s Fundraising account and the Church Roof Repairs committee.

James Litster from Kilmaurs landed the biggest troot at 8lbs, and 54 trout were recorded netted.

More next week. QG
