Weekly Report 27th October 2010

Food Van Present Every Morning and will be present for the morning of the Kirk and School day, where the money for all teas and coffees will go to the above causes. Plenty of boats left for the rest of the official season which finishes this Sunday. The price for the last Sunday boats has been reduced to £40 due to the clocks going back.

Resident Fish
Fishing has been good over the last week – weather permitting and there have been plenty of big resident fish caught since the buoys were removed from Gateside Bay – allowing anglers into fish where the fish pens are normally stationed. These big fish often do feed on stray pellets or the occasional directed scoop, during the summer, but are reliant on natural sources of food from mid October to mid May (seven months) when the fish pens are empty.

We managed to get photos of some of the big fish this week...........

Right Bob Ralston of Aberfoyle.

Not to be outdone, a hurried photograph of my biggest salmon to date? I put it in the book at 17lbs but I have estimated the length to be 87cm and the girth at 50cm (my size 12 boot is 13cm wide) – which puts it at around 20lbs on the Gowan’s calculator. If anyone wants to up this estimate, I will of course be most grateful. Nice third last cast of the season.

It was a really deep fresh hen which was hurriedly returned. The bit of straggle in the hackle of the Red Devil doesn't seem to have done any harm! Thanks for the flies Mr.Wilkie.
