The heat wave came to a wet end this week and with a lot of fresh water coming down the burns the water is slowly starting to cool down. The fish are still getting caught up in the deep waters at the cages rookery and the north side of Inchmahome Island. The Anglers are still using fast sinking lines with cat boobies, tequila blobs, Nymphs and heavy dressed buzzers.

 

 

In the last heat of the Scottish Club Championships it turned a very wet night and the 15 teams caught 178 trout with 101 being released. The top three competitors all took their fish on boobies fished on sinking lines between Inchmahome and Cages Bay. Top team was Strathtyrum AC (Ewan Clark, Graeme Connelly and Neil Barrett) and they landed 29 trout for 60lb 1oz. They receive a bottle of Speyburn Whisky. 2nd place went to Change FF AC "B" team with 21 trout for 45lb 10 oz. 3rd place went to Granite City Fly Fishers with 16 trout for 35lb 5 oz. These teams go through to the semi final on 30th August. Heaviest trout on the night was a beauty of a rainbow of 5lb 10oz caught by angler Carl Nixon from Change F.F. The heaviest basket on the night was 13 fish 26lb 13oz which was taken by Ewan Clark of Strathtyrum AC. Ewan received a bottle of Speyburn Highland Single Malt courtesy of sponsors Inver House Distillers.2nd: Wullie Leach, Change FF with 11 fish for 22lb 2.8oz 3rd: Grant McCauley of Middleton FF with 9 fish for 20lb 5oz 4th: John Morton of Grizzle Cats with 8 fish for 17lb 15.8oz 5th: Graeme Connelly of Strathtyrum AC with 8 fish for 16lb 14oz. The top 5 individuals go through to the Champion of Champions final on the 11th of October.

On the 12 night of the Baynes of Callander Boat League Graeme Steel came out top rod with 7 fish. It’s getting close with Alan MacLauchlan joining James Fairlie and Ken Oliver in 1st place with all 3 with 25 points.

Other notable catches include Police inter forces they had 28 rods and caught 84 fish 226lb with Edinburgh team of McBride, Brian Clifton, Graham Niven and Davie Blackwood who had 18 fish for 53lb 3oz winning Heaviest basket was David Mateer from Inverness , 6 fish for 15lb 4oz and heaviest fish was Davie Blackwood 6lb 15oz, St Peters club from Paisley (6 boats) 33 fish for 77lb the top rod from the club was Peter McCormack with 5 fish for 24lb including a lovely 7lb 14oz specimen. Largs and District (6 boats) 33 fish for 80lb, A,B,C&D (7 boats) 53 fish 120lb, Mr Clifton and Mr McIntyre from Edinburgh 4 fish 10lb plus 5 returned, Mr Cunningham 4 fish 10lb 14oz plus 4 returned, Stuart Rollo from Edinburgh 5 fish for 13½ lb plus 5 returned
