Some Good fishing in the past few days with dries appearing to be working and the Malling Shore around the Heronry and the Butts reportedly fishing well. 19 teams contested the 2nd semi final of Scottish Club Championships on Friday 28th August, and the semi final, included three previous winners. Many of the team anglers had been practising during the week, with good bags of trout being recorded. Again the hot spots appeared to be Malling shore, Stable Point and Gateside Bay (cages) to the west. Several boats went to International Bay and some to Lochend. Conditions were changeable with sunshine clouding over, and drizzly rain. At the end of the match 258 trout had been caught with 156 being released. Winners on the day were Neilston FF team of Tom Burnett, James Litster and Brian McKenzie with 23 trout for 49lb 5 oz. The other 9 finalists were:- Change FF 18 trout 42lb 9oz, Dows FFC 17 trout 36lb 6oz, Strathgryfe AA 16 trout 36lb 4oz, Saltire FF with 17 trout 35lb 8oz, East Kilbride AC with 17 trout 34lb 12oz, Pitlochry AC with 17 trout for 34lb 8oz, Glasgow Post Office with 16 trout for 33lb 7 oz., Tartan Tyers with 15 trout for 32lb 4oz and Priory AC with 15 trout for 31lb 6 oz. To Scottish Clubs Final on Friday 25th September. Top rod on the day was very close between internationalists John Buchanan with 11 trout for 23lb 13oz and James Litster with 12 trout for 23lb 12.6 oz. John was fishing a booby in the cages and got the heavier weight. James Litster was fishing in Lochend and the butts and netted more but smaller fish – reputedly on a floating line and buzzer.

Fundraising today at the lake with the Wojtek Memorial Trust in memory of Woytek the bear who carried shells and ate and drank with the polish army during ww2 and especially at the bloody battle of monte cassino. The poles and bear never went home to poland after the war as it was under soviet control. Wojtek sadly finished his days alone in edinburgh zoo. The fund is to erect a statue of the bear at the west end of princess street in recognition of the historic and modern links between Scotland and Poland.
