Lake of Menteith 18/3/15
6ft Water Temperature 4.5 C , Clarity (Secchi disc) 2.5m.

The Lake of Menteith is opening for trout anglers on Saturday 21st March (forecast is good) and prices have been dropped by £2 for catch and release and a new cheaper 2 fish keep ticket introduced. Prices for removal of 4 fish and up have increased by £2. There looks to be a good head of overwintered stock in the water due to the heavier than usual stocking last October and some stocking after the season was closed (400 fish of average weight 2lbs in Nov). This year’s pre-stocking (1071 fish of mean weight 2lbs) was distributed around the Loch yesterday (17/03/15) in our lovingly painted (thanks Alisdair) bright and shiny stocking boat (below).

More information on the website (www.menteith-fisheries.co.uk) and full report of next week’s opening of the fishery by Loch Lomond and Trossach’s National Park Chief Executive Gordon Watson, in next week. During the close season some fantastic pike were caught – especially last November. One of the best was this 29lb 8oz fish landed by youngster Arran Murray of the Pike Anglers Alliance for Scotland (left).

Over the winter we have been installing webcams, which are up and running but need a bit of fine tuning before they get let loose.

We are now replacing worn out malta 2 strokes with 2.5 HP Yamaha 4 stroke engines. Unfortunately they don’t have an external tank (more frequent refilling required) but they do have a very very nice and easy start.

Looking forward to seeing you all.
