Scottish Club Championships by M.Moran
On Saturday night 12 three man teams contested the 3rd heat of the National Clubs Championship at the Lake of Menteith, the weather was not very kind on the night as we had winds gusting to 28+ miles per hour and later in the evening the downpour arrived.
When the boats got under way it looked like an even split as some headed for Reedy point/Sam’s point and others opted for Toad hole and Lochend. As the evening wore on it looked as if pulling tactics with a couple of blobs or fabs with buzzers or crunchers was the answer either on a midge tip or slow glass line, a few anglers found it quite difficult until the wind softened and the trout came on the feed. Winning team on the night was Menteith Ospreys with 23 trout for 48lbs 2 oz, in 2nd place was Inverclyde with 16 trout for 39lbs , 3rd place went to Kinross AC with 12 trout for 27lbs 5oz. These teams will go forward to the 1st semi final on the 21st August. Top 5 rods on the night going in to final of Champion of Champions on Friday 9th October were: 1st Ronnie Gilbert Menteith Ospreys 17 trout for 34lb 8.4oz 2nd Stuart McLean Inverclyde 7 trout for 15lb 2oz 3rd Conner Campbell Kinross 6 trout for 13lb 7.6oz 4th Iain Campbell Inverclyde 6 trout for 13lb 1oz 5th Allan Smith Kinross 5 trout 11lb 13.4oz A total of 103 trout were caught by the 36anglers. Each returned fish counts as 2lbs towards basket weight. Heaviest fish on the night was a rainbow trout of 5lb 1oz caught by Heriots AC angler Bob Allan . Competition is sponsored by Angling Active, Stirling. Team captain, angler with best catch and heaviest fish all received bottles of "Famous Angler" whisky courtesy of Famous Grouse.
Police National by Paul Barr
The Scottish Police Recreation Association national competition was held on Thursday 14/5/15. The weather conditions were overcast with a light easterly breeze in the morning leading to brighter but breezier conditions in the afternoon.Pods of feeding fish were found all along the eastern shore but these fish were not always easy to tempt. In the end the winning team came from the east comprising of Ronnie Turnbull, Bob MacLean, Keith Anderson and Jimmy McBride. These anglers will represent Scotland in the 2016 National at Chew Valley whilst the top 14 rods have qualified for the 2016 International at Menteith. The top individual was Jimmy McBride who caught 15 fish, (1 retained and 14 returned). Runner up was Alan Hill. It is a strong team that has qualified and we wish them all the best in the upcoming competitions. The top tactics on the day were straight lined buzzers.
