Lake of Menteith Report 6/09/16

Secchi Disk 3.6m; 6ft Water Temperature 17C

With the National Fly fishing Championship Final only a few days away, the familiar story is that information and boats are a little hard to come by. However our gleanings tell us that there are a few hots spots on the go. Yesterday it was tight into the Malling shore and Gateside. Today initial reports are suggesting that Katie’s Brae area has seen good catches. Water clarity as not been bettered at this time of year and was an excellent 3.6m yesterday. The fact that other bodies of water are experiencing “highish” levels of algae (e.g. Loch Lomond) is encouraging in respect of recent measures taken at the Lake to reduce nutrient input, although we will need more time to assess, as it is early days.

The long sink tip line 10-12ft is very popular at the moment and is often fished with a booby or fab on the point and diawl bachs, wets or buzzers further up.

A selection from yesterday’s catches include
Scottisdh Paper and Pulp mill 6 boats 19 trout 47lbs and 12 rtd, Edinburgh Breadalbane AC 4 boats 14 fish for 38lbs and 15rtd, Edinburgh Walton 9 boats 32 fish for 80lbs and 17rtd, Renwick and Twaddle 1 boat 17 returned.

Below Hugh Law with an 8 pounder from Monday, and the pairings for the practice days.
