Clarity is still good at the Lake and in the recent hot weather Gateside Bay, The Gap and Malling Shore/Stable Point areas appear to have been the hotspots. A fair amount of practicing going on for the semi finals of the Scottish Club Championships this Friday so information is a little scratchy but going slightly below the surface in Gateside is an option.

3RD BOAT LEAGUE FOR BRIAN

Last week Brian MacKenzie (2nd from right) from Clydebank won his 3rd Menteith Boat League, making him the most successful angler in the competitions history. His top 9 results from a possible 15 heats totalled 17 pts – his lowest and best placings tally of his 3 boat leagues championships (full results on the website). 43 year Brian (an engineer and a father of two) praised the lack of hot spell which meant his dries worked every night more or less, as the fish weren’t too deep. His favourite dries are hoppers, cdcs and grunters, and his favoured areas this year were Gateside Bay, The Heronry and Arnmach and the islands. Brian was full of praise for his fellow boat leaguers – in respect of their company and fishing skills. He was beaten by his boat partners on three occasions.

Brian takes home £500 and a voucher for £100 for Bayne’s of Callander Fishing Tackle and nominated the £300 pounds of charity donation to go to Motor Neurone Disease (Scotland). In second place was Bill Ramage (33pts) who wins £150 and a Bayne’s  Tackle Voucher for £75 and 3rd place was Steven Francis (on left) with 51 pts. Steven won £50 and a £50 tackle voucher. Big thanks were made to the Sponsors – Roger Drapper (2nd from left) of Bayne’s Tackle Callander who donated £600 worth of tackle vouchers and Andy Smith of Southside Decorators (pictured right) who donated £400 worth of Malt Whisky. The Lake donated £160 to charity and around £200s worth of merchandise as well as the food and drink for the prize giving. The biggest donation was from the 42 anglers taking part who each gave £20 towards the prize and charity money. The anglers enjoyed some delicious cake supplied by Nada Mackenzie of Auld Delicious Deserts.

At the end of the competition the rod average catch (3.54) was remarkably similar to last year (3.58).
