Lake Blog 2nd May 2017

Secchi disk Clarity 3.1m ; Water Temperature at 6ft 10C.
Evening fishing has commenced and there are lots of boats available for those that can ’t get on during the day. First heat of the boat league is tomorrow night and we have over 44 intending to take part. If you are interested in joining there is still some room left and we are calling the first night a taster evening, so feel free to come along and see how you get on.

The water temperature is making gradual progress and has risen 0.5C in the last week. Some great buzzer fishing has been happening, from the main buzzer beds which are located in the Butts and Lochend. I am told that wee natural looking buzzers are the answer – nothing to flashy, a floating line and 3 buzzers and a fab to hang them up if it is dull but take the fab off if it gets bright. The fish can be buzzer feeding well in - or quite far out.

National Championship

In Heat 4 of the Scottish National Fly Fishing Championships 56 anglers killed 155 trout for 334lbs (average weight 2lbs 2.5oz) and returned another 344. Giving a rod average of 8.9 trout for 19.2lbs. To qualify you needed 8 good fish or more. Top bag on the day was Scott Aitken (centre) with an amazing 29 trout, 2nd was Chris McAllister (pictured right) with 23 trout and Brad Chalmers was 3rd with 17 trout. All were fishing buzzers in the Lochend /Tod Hole area.
