Lake of Menteith 4th July 2017
Water Temperature – 15C, Clarity (Secchi disc) 3m.

We are increasing our fleet by 2 boats to 33 available per day from mid-July. As a consequence the boat availability page is showing less “fulls” than usual!
Some great dry fly fishing at the moment in the sheltered areas especially. Along the rope in Gateside Bay, Stable Point and Reedy Point have all been mentioned in dispatches. Top fly: Yellow owl.
Top tips received this week from anglers on the beach –you know who you are.
“If there is a wave 2 or 3 dries. If it is flat calm 2 dries and a buzzer – to sink the nylon”
“Fish are better at looking up than looking down – so start off with a floater.”

Stuart Harrison from Ayrshire had a great day on dries with 19 fish including 3 over 5lbs (including this one pictured right).

Scottish Club Championships Heat 9.  1st July.    – report by Kenny Miller. Of the ten clubs competing, 2 were previous winners .  Briefing was done by Murray Hunter and there was the usual rush for seat straps and lifejackets.   Conditions were choppy, but within 40 minutes wind had settled and looking good.   Most boats headed to top of the wind at Malling shore, Plantation and west side Gateside Bay (Cages).  On checking the boats it was seen that trout were being caught in Gateside Bay on the drift to Portend Burn.  The lee side of Arnmach Point and Inchmahome island also saw anglers covering rising trout., mostly to dry fly, but washing line tactics of booby or fab on point with buzzers, nymphs, cormorants or diawl bachs  between was also working.  Congratulations to Connor Campbell of Kinross Ac who netted 14 trout to his own rod. By end of the night the 90 trout had been caught with 46 being released by 30 anglers.
