Menteith 7th Nov 2017

The 32 ½ boats booked by the Pike Angler’s Alliance Scotland (PAAS) on 4/11/17 caught 252 jack pike (<10bs), 70 fish were caught between 10lbs and 20lbs and there were 15 fish caught over 20lbs. The biggest was 27lbs 10oz. Methods used were lures and bait. This is a very good result. A quick look at all the results between 1999 and 2012 (the more recent results need to be put on computer), shows that this equals the best ever number of doubles netted (70 were netted in November 2006, and the 6th best result in that time period for number of twenty pound plus fish captured – or the best ever result in that time period for fish caught between 10lbs and 30lbs………

The last big trout fishing event of 2017 at the Lake took place on Sunday 5th – the Kirk and School community fundraising BBQ. Where all money collected on the day go to the aforementioned. This year was another dazzling day for a BBQ (not so good for the fishing) and a great time was had by one and all. Special thanks to: the Port PTA for organising the food and raffle, the children and teachers for their Songs, Ada for her lovely cello playing throughout the day, Stewart Marshall for his piping and all those who turned up for their company and generosity. Overall after costs, we expect to raise about £2300 for the Kirk and School. On the fishing front best boat of the day went to James Litster and Brian MacKenzie who landed 40 fish from Gateside Bay. Successful tactic was a Cat Bug fished 8 feet under a bung. Plenty of fish were also getting caught in Hotel Bay and off Shear Point. Loads of great pictures on our facebook page.
