SANACC 2017 Champion of Champion
Allan MacLachlan

The anglers who had finished in the top 5 of the 12 heats of the Scottish Club Championships gathered at the lake on a beautiful autumn morning. The day started with cool flat calm conditions but as the day went on it got cloudier with a cold westerly breeze.
The match was fished on a catch and release basis with the first three fish being measured for length with anglers being awarded a 35cm allowance for each additional fish returned.
The top 2 anglers on the day each finished with 13 fish, a number that was to prove lucky for one but not the other.

Allan McLachlan of Stirling Castle AC came out on top by the narrowest of margins, 3.5cm. Allan started at the cages before moving to Lochend. He then got success drifting from Chicken Leg Bay over to International Bay. At 5.15 he was contemplating heading in before landing his last fish right in front of the lodge. Allan caught his fish on a mid glass line coupled with a Cat's Whiskers and an orange blob. These were fished on a figure of eight and Allan improvised by removing the eyes from a Booby as he never had another identical Cat. The win caps an excellent year for Allan following on from his win in the Bob Church Classic. Well done. In second place, also with 13 was Jimmy McBride representing the Scottish Police Recreation Association East. Jimmy caught his fish between the cages and Rookery with Boobies and Fabs on a DI3 followed by a couple of fish on dries. 3rd place went to this years National winner, Brian MacKenzie. He caught 10 fish for 391.5 cm and fished Boobies on Fast Glass and DI5 lines at the cages and Malling. 244 fish were landed for a rod average of 4.44. The presentation dinner was held at the Forth Inn at Aberfoyle following the match which included a charity raffle. Thanks to the SANACC committee for all their work and to all of the anglers who make the competition what it is and to the sponsor;s Snowbee, Keir Hardie Joinery, Fly Tying Scotland, Lake of Menteith Fisheries and Glencairn Crystal.

Mick and Steve Kelly had a fine outing at the end of September. The father and son team boated 33 fish including this 6lb(ish) brown – using mainly black hogs and hares ears.
