SCOTTISH CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Club Secretary Kenny Miller Reports on the 2nd  semi final of Scottish club Championships on the 29th August where 21 teams of three anglers (including 5 previous winners) competed, took place on  Friday 29th August.  Information from the previous weeks semi final saw boats heading to the eastern drifts of Lochend, Kates Brae and International Bay.  Wind was mostly blowing from the west; Heronry, Malling Shore, Gateside Bay and Rookery Point were west hot spots.

Catch limit was 2 trout then catch and release on barbless or de -barbed hooks.  First few hours were productive with trout being caught on fab blobs, boobies, wets, mini lures, nymphs and buzzers. As the day wore on, catches began to reduce, and some anglers turned to dry fly and foam daddies. Top team on the day were Rainbow Warriors trio of Laurie Taylor (captain) John Cree and Alex McEwan (pictured above left) who netted 31 trout (25 released) for 67lb 4oz. Following teams go forward to final on 19th September at Lake of Menteith;  Alba Orvis "B" 28 trout for 61-12oz   Ferry Fly Fishers 23 trout for 50lb 10 Rothes Oak   23 trout for 50lb  3   Saltire FF 24 trout 49lb -2  Change FF "B"  21 trout 47lb-12  ABC&D  20 trout 47lb-11oz  Newton Mearns   21 trout  47lb-3  Alba Orvis "A" 21trout  46lb-3  Monifieth Troot  18 trout 43lb-4  Leslie  & Glenrothes 19 trout 42lb -13. Top rod on the day and taking his team to 2nd place was David Bonnington, Alba Orvis "B" with 13 trout (11 returned) for 29lbs. Davie was fishing dries. Laurie Taylor ,Captain of winning team had 12 trout (10 returned) for 26lb 15oz.  Both received bottles of "Glen Garioch" pronounced "Geery" courtesy of sponsors Morrison Bowmore, Distillers. Great fishing and no boat complaints.   A brown of over 7lbs was caught by Malcolm Selvey of Carnoustie (above right).  As there was an uneven number of anglers I went out as port angler with George Brown, Rothes Oak.  He was a gentleman and his catch of 11 trout proved his ability as a good angler.  Kenny

The Lake continues to be affected by algae, particularly on windward shores.

The best stockies of the year are going in just now and the average fish weight for August was 2lbs 9oz and current average weight is even higher. Some cracking fish have been boated this week. Stuart McLean (pictured left boated this one) and Jordan of the Cormorant Angling Club caught this belter (below).
