Lake of Menteith 15th July  2014
6ft Water Temperature 18C, Clarity (Secchi disc) 2m.

With water temperatures still pushing fish out of the shallower areas, the best catches remain in Gateside (love thy neighbour or fish elsewhere!)and other deep areas (the Gap, Western Basin, Road Shore). Best boat yesterday was fishing midge tips at Gateside with a fab on the point and buzzers further up.

Sierra Pairs
Left: Bruce Callander from Dumfries and Gary Brown from Ayrshire  finished 5th in the second heat of the Sierra Pairs at the Lake – but they had the best brace and Gary caught the biggest fish. The top three pairs go through to the final at Rutland on 7th Sept. In 1st place with a 10 fish bag weight of 31lbs 2.6oz plus a time bonus of  7lbs 8oz were father and son Ross and Andrew Drummond from Kilmarnock. They weren’t first in but got the bigger fish by staying longer in the cages. In 2nd place were Ken Oliver and Iain Campbell and 3rd place were Ian Scott and Norman Breckenridge.

In the Boat League; Keir Hardie finished 1st for the second week in a row with 11 fish. He started off on a di5 with 5 fisdh then switched to a floater and moved to Hotel Bay where he picked up 6 on dabblers and a CDC. Alan Maclachlan finished in second place with 9 fish and picked up the BAYNES of Callander Tackle Voucher and the bottle of GLEN GARIOCH MALT. Brian Mac heads up the Leader Board.

Almost every boat set off for the Heronry, Malling Shore, Cages Bay and Rookery and as was to be expected these were the areas that produced the winners. Top team and winner of the Glen Garioch bottle of 12 year old malt whisky were FAFA represented by Alan Steven (2 trout), Ian Dobbie (3 trout) and Andy McAdam (4 trout) with a total catch of 9 fish for 22lb 0.4oz. All three were fishing buzzers on a Di3 in Cages Bay. In second place were the team from Monifieth Trout AC represented by Keith Robertson (2 trout), Malcolm Selvey (3 trout) and Willie Meldrum (2 trout) with a total catch of 7 fish for 17lb 15.4oz.
