TROUT FISHING
Scotland’s only natural lake is 700 acres and stocked weekly with trout with an even distribution by boat. Trout are reared in the location in extensive low density conditions which ensures great-looking fish. The size of the Lake ensures that a good proportion of stocked trout become resident and feed voraciously on and above the extensive buzzer (chironomid)beds, and many other delicacies including mayfly and course fish fry. Onsite rearing and plentiful natural feeding makes for beautiful, healthy, powerfull fish, large and small.
The low lying situation and indented nature of the Lake and its three islands means that it is one of the most sheltered stocked trout fishing venues in Scotland, but with a big enough expanse of water to get a ripple and some solitude. The loch is predominantly shallow (see Map) and surface fishing tactics for trout predominate. In hot spells there are deep areas where the fish can keep cool. The Lake is renowned for its dry fly and buzzer fishing.
We have an extensive range of flies and tippet in our tackle and permit shop. If you have not visited the Lake before please tell the shop staff and they will ask a boatman to give you an introduction to the boats and engines.
